Nordette is a generic medication. It is sold under many different brand names. Here are a few of the more common ones:
- Brevicon
- Demulen
- Lo/Ovral
- Loestrin
- Modicon
- Norinyl
- Ortho-Novum
- Ovcon
- Ovral
- Tri-Phasil
Nordette is sold in a monthly dispenser that has either 21 or 28 pills in it. The first 21 pills have low doses of the hormones estrogen and progestin. The other 7 pills (if using the 28-day pack) mimic the low hormones normal for that time of the period and contain no hormones. Generic Nordette is a light orange tablet for the first 21 days. For the 4th week (in the case of the 28 pack), the pills are pink.
How to Find the Right Dose
A doctor is always the best person to decide which dose or brand is right for each woman. Nordette is designed to be taken one pill per day, every day of the month. It's important to follow your dosing schedule exactly.
