Like most medications, Nordette can cause side effects such as:

• Vaginal bleeding or spotting, which is usually short-lived
• Fluid retention
• Spotty darkening of the skin, called melasma, especially on the face

Less common side effects can include:

• Nausea
• Tender breasts
• Change in appetite
• Headache
• Nervousness or depression
• Dizziness
• Loss of scalp hair
• Rash
• Vaginal infections
